Balasore College of Engineering & Technology, Balasore is first and foremost institution of learning and teaching committed to serve the needs of society. Since its inception alongwith the institute in 2001, the department of computer Science & Engg. Is under dynamic progress and is able to establish the recitation for imparting quality education. The department provides excellence in teaching complemented by outstanding research environment. The department of Computer Science & Engg. Contributes to the mission of the institute in 2-ways. First, its undergraduate program seek to educate students in the fundamental principles of Computer Science and the skills needs to solve the technological problems of modern society, the breadth of course work provides a framework for life-long learning and appreciation for multidisciplinary activities. Second, through our research programs, the department contributes to the development and progress of computer science and software and information technology, to provide innovative, creative solutions for society needs.

To create the most conducive environment for quality academic and research oriented education in computer science and engineering and prepare the students for a globalized technological society and orient them towards serving the society.

Mission

  • M1: Providing a strong theoretical and practical background across the computer science discipline with an emphasis on software development.
  • M2: Imparting the skills necessary to continue education to grow professional and empowering the youth in rural communities with computer education.
  • M3: Inculcating professional behavior, strong moral and ethical values, innovative research capabilities and leadership abilities.

Knowledge and Attitude Profile (WK)

  • WK1: A systematic, theory-based understanding of the natural sciences applicable to the discipline and awareness of relevant social sciences.
  • WK2: Conceptually-based mathematics, numerical analysis, data analysis, statistics, and formal aspects of computer and information science to support detailed analysis and modelling applicable to the discipline.
  • WK3: A systematic, theory-based formulation of engineering fundamentals required in the engineering discipline.
  • WK4: Engineering specialist knowledge that provides theoretical frameworks and bodies of knowledge for the accepted practice areas in the engineering discipline; much is at the forefront of the discipline.
  • WK5: Knowledge, including efficient resource use, environmental impacts, whole-life cost, re-use of resources, net zero carbon, and similar concepts, that supports engineering design and operations in a practice area.
  • WK6: Knowledge of engineering practice (technology) in the practice areas in the engineering discipline.
  • WK7: Knowledge of the role of engineering in society and identified issues in engineering practice in the discipline, such as the professional responsibility of an engineer to public safety and sustainable development.
  • WK8: Engagement with selected knowledge in the current research literature of the discipline, awareness of the power of critical thinking and creative approaches to evaluate emerging issues.
  • WK9: Ethics, inclusive behavior, and conduct. Knowledge of professional ethics, responsibilities, and norms of engineering practice. Awareness of the need for diversity by reason of ethnicity, gender, age, physical ability, etc., with mutual understanding, respect, and inclusive attitudes.

  • PEO 1: PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE: Apply fundamental and advanced knowledge of Computer Science and Engineering to design, develop, and deploy innovative computing solutions for industry and society.
  • PEO 2: PROBLEM SOLVING AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Analyze real-world engineering problems and develop sustainable, ethical, and technology-driven solutions that address societal, industrial, and economic needs.
  • PEO 3: LIFELONG LEARNING AND CAREER GROWTH: Adapt, innovate, and engage in lifelong learning, research, entrepreneurship, and professional development to excel in emerging technologies and multidisciplinary environments.

Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs):

  • PSO 1: COMPUTING AND SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT: Design, develop, and evaluate efficient software systems using programming languages, algorithms, databases, operating systems, and computer networks.
  • PSO 2: EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES AND PROBLEM SOLVING: Apply modern computing tools and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, IoT, and Cyber Security to solve real-world problems.
  • PSO 3: INNOVATION, RESEARCH, AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Demonstrate professional competence, lifelong learning, innovation, research aptitude, and entrepreneurial skills for successful careers and higher studies.

Program Outcomes (POs):

  • PO 1: ENGINEERING KNOWLEDGE: Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization as specified in WK1 to WK4 respectively to develop solutions for complex engineering problems.
  • PO 2: PROBLEM ANALYSIS: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions with consideration for sustainable development. (WK1 to WK4)
  • PO 3: DESIGN/DEVELOPMENT OF SOLUTIONS: Design creative solutions for complex engineering problems and design/develop systems/components/processes to meet identified needs with consideration for public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon, culture, society, and environment as required. (WK5)
  • PO 4: CONDUCT INVESTIGATIONS OF COMPLEX PROBLEMS: Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge including design of experiments, modelling, analysis, and interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions. (WK8)
  • PO 5: ENGINEERING TOOL USAGE: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering & IT tools, including prediction and modelling, recognizing their limitations to solve complex engineering problems. (WK2 and WK6)
  • PO 6: THE ENGINEER AND THE WORLD: Analyze and evaluate societal and environmental aspects while solving complex engineering problems for their impact on sustainability with reference to economy, health, safety, legal framework, culture, and environment. (WK1, WK5, and WK7)
  • PO 7: ETHICS: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics, human values, diversity and inclusion, and adhere to national and international laws. (WK9)
  • PO 8: INDIVIDUAL AND COLLABORATIVE TEAMWORK: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse/multidisciplinary teams.
  • PO 9: COMMUNICATION: Communicate effectively and inclusively within the engineering community and society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, and make effective presentations considering cultural, language, and learning differences.

This is an exciting time for computer engineers. Much of this excitement is due to the dramatic pace at which the industry is growing. Well-qualified IT professionals are in great demand both in India and abroad. Major IT companies are on a talent hunting spree. They are hiring more engineers now than they have in the past five years or so. The need for IT engineers is growing exponentially and is likely to grow in the future considering the advancements and pace of growth of this sector.
