Balasore College of Engineering & Technology, Balasore is first and foremost institution of learning and teaching committed to serve the needs of society. Since its inception alongwith the institute in 2001, the department of computer Science & Engg. Is under dynamic progress and is able to establish the recitation for imparting quality education. The department provides excellence in teaching complemented by outstanding research environment. The department of Computer Science & Engg. Contributes to the mission of the institute in 2-ways. First, its undergraduate program seek to educate students in the fundamental principles of Computer Science and the skills needs to solve the technological problems of modern society, the breadth of course work provides a framework for life-long learning and appreciation for multidisciplinary activities. Second, through our research programs, the department contributes to the development and progress of computer science and software and information technology, to provide innovative, creative solutions for society needs.


To create the most conducive environment for quality academic and research oriented education in computer science and engineering and prepare the students for a globalised technological society and orient them towards serving the society.


i) Providing a strong theoretical and practical background across the computer science discipline with an emphasis on software development.
ii) Imparting the skills necessary to continue education to grow professional and empowering the youth in rural communities with computer education.
iii) Inculcating professional behavior, strong moral and ethical values, innovative research capabilities and leadership abilities.

HOD’s Message

Learning is a continuous process and does not end with the acquisition of a degree, especially because steady and rapid advances in computing technologies shorten the life of tools and techniques prevalent today. Therefore we do not aim to make our students walking manuals of any language or package. Instead, they are given a strong foundation in computer science and problem-solving techniques, and are made adaptable to changes.
Our Department has produced hundreds of professionals and has established a name for itself in the country and abroad. They have consistently excelled in the highly competitive industrial environment, Best Employer/ awards in top-ranking companies. I attribute this success to the winning combination of a dedicated faculty that works hard at imparting quality education, a well-planned teaching learning methods and last but not least, our students.

Program Educational Objectives:

PEO 1: To provide students with a foundation in the principles of computer science, including mathematics and basic engineering necessary to find answers to the technological issues of modern society.
PEO 2: To provide students a breadth of knowledge in computer science and related engineering disciplines in order to enable them to understand engineering trade-offs across multiple disciplines, work effectively as an individual and as a member in multidisciplinary teams.
PEO 3: To provide awareness of security and laws pertaining to cyber usage, ethical issues related to computing and to provide knowledge on subject protection through Intellectual Property Rights.
PEO 4: To provide students with specialized knowledge in focused areas of their choice, in order to strengthen them to make contributions to a specific discipline and pursue post graduation or research.
PEO 5: To train students in problem solving skills in design, development and analysis for interpretation and synthesis of data and create awareness for lifelong learning.

Program Outcomes:

PO1 - Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO2 - Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering.
PO3 - Design of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO4 - Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
PO5 - Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
PO6 - The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
PO7 - Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
PO8 - Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
PO9 - Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
PO10 - Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
PO11 - Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
PO12 - Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Well-qualified IT professionals are in great demand both in India and abroad. Major IT companies are on a talent hunting spree. They are hiring more engineers now than they have in the past five years or so. The need for IT engineers is growing exponentially and is likely to grow in the future considering the advancements and pace of growth of this sector.
